How to Increase Energy Levels in 3 Easy Steps

Want to know how to increase energy levels?

You’re in the right place,

Especially if you’re:

  • Tired all the time
  • Struggling to concentrate
  • Feel like you can’t do what you want to do
  • Feel zapped because of the people you’re surrounded by
  • Stressed up to your eyeballs

The funny thing about energy is that it can be an elusive invisible thing that we often take for granted.

We take it for granted by pushing it as far as we can.

Whether it’s staying up late at night to watch one more episode of your favorite series, or working extra hours and pushing the limits with junk food.

But when it’s gone we notice it and it becomes a problem.

This is because energy is a tangible experience.

It’s a mix of chemical reactions in our system which determines how we’re going to show up.

Our energy is our greatest asset and for us to perform at our best we must learn how to utilize the energy we have.

Before we can increase energy levels we must use what already exists in the most sufficient and resourceful ways.

When we commit to optimizing what we already have it doesn’t take any extra time to feel more energized - in fact it can take less time.

Many forward-thinking organizations across the globe know this. Which is why they’re reducing the average work day to get the best from their employees.

They recognise that 1 hour of focused, high level, high energy focused work is far better than 8 hours of consistent low energy. They’re creating an environment that’s conducive to high energy.

Energy is a byproduct of existing habits and environment. When we leverage those habits and environments, naturally energy increases.

And who wouldn’t want that?

Great energy leads to more productivity, creativity, clarity, more time and even better concentration.

The Problem

We live in a society where most people are looking for the next sports drink, energy bar, or cup of coffee that will give them the extra edge to get through the day.

Upcoming generations are used to convenience and are getting too used to instant gratification.

As much as we too, love convenience, we also know that this cannot apply everywhere in life. It’s too easy to become reliant on external energy sources.

Instead, remembering we already have what we need internally to generate energy is a sustainable way forward.

Here’s how to increase energy levels:

Imagine your body is like a phone battery. Every day you wake up with 24 bars of energy, each bar represents one hour of the day.

You start with 100%, a fully charged battery.

Throughout the day we lose energy based on where we expend it.

We challenge you to keep an energy diary throughout your day.

Find out where your energy is going,

Reflect on what needs to shift in your life to allow for more energy to support the most important areas of your life.

Include food, hydration, emotions, sleep, thoughts, people and breathing into your reflection.

It might be obvious to you from looking at your energy diary, or you might need to observe and reflect a little deeper.

Once you’ve recognized what energises you, prioritise them and include them more where possible.

Once you’ve recognized what doesn’t energise you, put a plan in place to overcome them:

These tips may help:

  • Eliminate wasted time

Stop scrolling through social media and having pointless conversations which don’t add value to your life.

  • Avoid energy vampires

Don’t spend time with anyone who drains you, anyone who brings you down or anyone who tries to rain on your energy parade.

  • Block out down time for you

As little as 10minutes of quiet time for you is enough to balance your energy but a vacation will usually always help recharge and reserve your energy.

  • Breathe

Most people take advantage of their ability to breathe by breathing from the chest only. Learn to breathe deep into the belly so you can optimize your body’s natural energy reservoir.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget the power of intention and the power of the mind. Our energy is generated in our system and we can influence it drastically when we put our mind to it.

Think of a time when you’ve either been in a race or have been watching a race.

When the athlete sees the finish line in sight, they never slow down. In fact, you’ll likely see them get a surge of energy as they sprint over the finish line.

This surge of energy doesn’t appear because they stopped and refueled, it appears because they demanded more of themselves. They set the intention to give it everything they’ve got.

We have the ability to generate energy from within – on demand.

Now quality nutrition, hydration and movement will certainly make it sustainable in the long-term. But we must remember to trust ourselves to create our own energy when we need it.

We’re aware this isn’t the standard list of ‘tips to boost your energy’ that’s filled with lists of superfoods and body hacks.

This is because those things are awesome for boosting energy levels AFTER you’ve taken care of your foundation.

Practice the 3 Steps to increase energy levels and notice how your life becomes even more meaningful because you’ll have a strong foundation.

  • Tiredness will be a thing of the past
  • You’ll have a clear mind to concentrate on what matters
  • Energy will be overflowing so you can do what you want to do
  • People you’re surrounded by will motive and inspire you
  • And you’ll have the capacity to let go of unhealthy stress for good.

Here’s the first thing to do once you finish reading to this:

Grab your wellness journal and score yourself on a scale of 1-5 (low-high), based on how you feel.

If you’re feeling energized, it’ll be a 5 and if you’re feeling fatigued it’ll be a 1.

Use this measure to gauge how you’re progressing each day.

Until next time,
