Balanced Nutrition for Stress Relief

Balanced hydration and nutrition for stress relief is a healthy way of coping with stress for the longterm.

Plus, it’s easier than you might think. It’s one of the most healthy strategies for coping with stress.

Is stress effecting your ability to keep a balance in your food and drink habits?

Maybe you struggle losing weight or gaining weight?

Maybe you find it hard to maintain your energy throughout the day?

Or perhaps you suffer with brain fog or lack of focus?

Or you experience joint pain and tension in your body?

A lot of our clients experience these same problems when they start working with us.

It’s so frustrating for them because they want to be out in the world doing important work. They want to feel energised about life but they keep getting stuck with the same problems.

And one of the main reasons is a lack of understanding about what nutrition for stress looks like for them.

They’re usually super stressed from the busyness of life and they're overwhelmed with conflicting advice about what they ‘should’ or ‘shouldn’t’ be doing.

Too many people follow generic guidelines without understanding how their own bodies work.

Most are feeling lonely and ground down by events of the past year and some have awoken to anxieties and past traumas that were laying dormant.

Many have been waiting a long time to regain their freedom and believe that once everything returns to normal all will be fine.

And of course, more social interaction and a sense of familiarity will improve stress levels.

But, a lot of damage has already been done.

A lot of people feel like their future is now downright impossible as they’ve lost loved ones, jobs, income and opportunities to progress with their families and careers.

Many have missed out on big life milestones like getting married, going on holidays, celebrating big birthdays, promotions and achievements due to cancellations and delays.

And many report feeling insecure about the economy and how it affects the future. Like buying a house, getting a well-paid job, or setting up their own business’ and supporting their families.

This is all contributing to chronic pandemic stress.

But with this, are 3 powerful lessons we can learn that’ll help us move through this time easier.

Everyone is unique and requires a tailored approach to their nutrition and hydration.

The old school mentality of diets and generic nutrition plans need to become a thing of the past - it’s doing more harm than good.

We need to take control back of our own health by trusting in our bodies ability to tell us what it needs.

It’s time to stop listening to the quick fix gimmicks and people who are trying sell you 'the world’s best diet plan'.

Sorry to break it to you but... this does NOT exist.

It’s easy to want to believe in these quick fixes, because we’re busy people trying to keep the plates of life spinning the best way we can.

But the more we try to implement quick fixes, the less results we get and the more stressed we get when we’re back at square one.

So, WHAT’S THE SOLUTION?

It’s time to start learning how to connect with your body.

Listen to what it’s tells you.

It’s telling you every single second of the day through your physical reactions.

It tells you if the food you’re eating is right for you or not.

It tells you if you’re drinking enough water or not. It tells you if it is happy with what you’re doing or not.

All you need to do is simply pay attention and listen.

See, the quick fixes tell you what to eat but they don’t know HOW your body will respond.

More often than not, we know what’s healthy food and what’s not. So, it’s essential to focus on the implementation then we can listen accordingly.

Implementing is usually one of toughest things when it comes to being balanced.

Results follows implementation.

5 SIMPLE STEPS TO IMPLEMENTING BALANCED

NUTRITION & HYDRATION

Step 1: Choose a day to prepare your foods in advance.

If you work Monday-Friday, set aside time on Sunday to do meal prep. If your work week varies, adjust the day to the time of the week when you have more downtime.

Step 2: Make your shopping list.

Choose the meals you want to have over the week and create your list from there.

Step 3: Get the groceries!

Go to the store (the old school way) or place your order on whatever grocery delivery service you might have access to. Note that you might need 48 hours or more of notice for delivery, so plan accordingly!

Step 4: Prep in batches

Cook up a batch of grains and chop up all the veggies.

Even if you don’t cook them all right away, it’s helpful to have them washed and chopped so they are ready to go throughout the week.

Step 5: Cook it up now, or later.

If you’re someone who doesn’t have much time during the week for meals, feel free to batch cook recipes on Sunday.

This means, cook A LOT of things in one day, and then store them in containers. If you prefer to cook daily, you can store the chopped veggies and other ingredients in the fridge. Then take them and cook them as needed throughout the week.

By implementing these basics, you can start listening to how your body responds to the foods you consume.

You can cut through all the noise out there and trust that your body knows when what you are giving it is right.

THE BIGGEST MISTAKE PEOPLE MAKE WITH NUTRITION

Trusting others instead of themselves about what’s right for them or not.

We aren’t saying you shouldn’t seek out advice but first educate yourself on how your body responds to what you consume. This way you’ll know what questions to ask when you do seek advice.

Understand that there is no wrong or right, good or bad, only what’s right for you. That will be different person to person.

Understand the feelings and sensations your body is giving you when you eat and drink.

Understand that your body needs a range of nutrients. Cutting out entire food groups like carbs, fats or proteins can have adverse effects of your health.

The same goes for water.

HYDRATION IS THE KEY TO OPTIMAL HEALTH

A study done on 1100 adults in the UK and USA tracked participants after eating the same foods for breakfast for 14 days and seeing how they responded to that food.

The results showed that no two individuals' reactions were the same — more evidence that there's no such thing as a perfect, one-size-fits-all diet.

Just because a diet or recommendation is out there doesn't mean it’s right for you.

Here’s the first thing to do once you finish reading this:-

Decide and block out time when you will shop and prepare your food.

As you start following a more balanced approach you can start to take note of how you feel after every meal. If you’re feeling energised and light then that’s a sign those are the right foods for you.

If you’re feeling bloated, gassy or experience stomach pain, it's a sign your body is struggling to digest, so replace it.

The goal is to find what works for you and never remove anything from what you eat unless it causes you more harm than good.

Grab your wellness journal and score yourself on a scale of 1-5 (low-high), based on how your current reality.

If you’re feeling balanced and getting results it’ll be a 5 and if you’re not it’ll be a 1.

Use this measure to gauge how you’re progressing each day.
